Shell And Tube Type Heat Exchangers
Shell and tube heat exchangers are a type of heat exchanger design. It is the most common heat exchanger in oil refineries and other large chemical processes and is suitable for high pressure applications. This type of heat exchanger consists of a shell (a large pressure vessel) with a bundle of tubes in the shell. One fluid flows through the pipe and the other fluid flows through the pipe (through the housing) to transfer heat between the two fluids. This group of tubes is called a tube bundle and can be composed of several types of tubes: ordinary tubes, longitudinal finned tubes, etc.
The shell and tube heat exchanger is designed to obtain a larger transfer surface area in a small space while minimizing fluid pressure loss. They can be applied to all applications from low temperature to high temperature, from low pressure to high pressure, as well as for heating, cooling, evaporation and condensation.
Compared with other types of heat exchangers, they have high reliability and are the most widely used in hydraulic and chemical related industries.
Their basic structure is very simple, so maintenance is very easy.
